As East Long Beach comes to grips with the tragic news of a family displaced from another fire close to a fire station...but for budget reasons unavailable- some media outlets appear to be clueless!

JetBlue profits up

JetBlue second quarter profits are up

Reuters News is reporting that JetBlue will post higher second quarter profits up from the first quarter's 11 cents per share profits to this quarters 19 cents per share profits despite "under performing" what other U.S. airlines are expected to post.

The article blames JetBlue's "under performance" on "hurdles keeping costs down".

"... U.S. carrier JetBlue Airways is expected to post a higher second quarter profit, benefiting from increased leisure travel. Analysts expect profit of 19 cents a share on average, compared with 11 cents a share a year ago.

 JetBlue has taken steps to improve performance that include adding faster, satellite-based WiFi and lie-flat seating to cross-country flights but has underperformed other carriers on metrics such as return on capital and has had hurdles keeping costs down."

JetBlue has been in talks with the City of Long Beach to bring a U.S. Customs facility to Long Beach Airport for international flights. The Long Beach Register has done several articles on the economic problems other smaller airports ( i.e. John Wayne and Fresno) as well as Ontario and San Bernardo airports have had with the economics and keeping airlines in the competitive international  air business.

Going back to its roots after a one year experiment in "go big"...the winding through the neighborhood 4th of July morning Bike Parade returns to Los Altos on the morning of July 4th.

Meet at the corner of Garford and Stearnlee  between 9:00 am and 9:30 am with your decorated bike, wagon or scooter and join in the fun.

E.J. Malloy's Los Altos

E.J. Malloy's applies for transfer of Fish Tale alcohol license

EJ Malloy's has applied for a transfer of the Fish Tale ABC license. The Type 47 Restaurant with a full bar has no restrictions on the alcohol license. The Fish Tale will close July 31, 2014.

Protests of an ABC license transfer can only be made on "moral" grounds of the applicant who applies for the transfer.

The Fish Tale was grandfathered business because it predates the Conditional Use Permit process.  E.J. Malloy's Los Altos may apply for a CUP Exemption if they keep the same "footprint" of the existing restaurant.  Any major changes in the footprint of the  Fish Tale restaurant/bar will trigger the CUP process for E.J. Malloy's Los Altos.

Under a Type 47 License, quarterly gross sales of alcohol may not exceed food sales.

Currently E.J. Malloy's operates two other locations in Long Beach- on Atlantic Ave in Bixby Knolls and on Broadway in Alamitos Heights. Both of those other locations have operating restrictions.  Both locations stay open until midnight with the kitchen closing two hours before ( Alamitos Heights closes at 11 pm on Sundays).

E.J. Malloy owner Brent Brakebill lives in the 3rd District La Marina neighborhood-not in Los Altos as reported in some local press stories.

FISH TALE RESTAURANT TO CLOSE

FISH TALE RESTAURANT TO CLOSE IN AUGUST and become THIRD EJ MALLOY'S

After a month of social media speculation on the closing of the Los Altos Fish Tale, the restaurant
confirmed on their social media site that they are indeed closing the site after 36 years:

Fish Tale Farewell

On November 22, 1977, The Fish Tale Restaurant opened its doors to its first customers. This coming August 1, 2014, it will close its doors for the last time.

We want to thank you, our customers, for making The Fish Tale Restaurant the oldest seafood restaurant in Long Beach. For 36 years we have come to know you and regard you as our friends.

We are proud of the hundreds of cooks, dishwashers, servers, receptionists, and managers we've employed over these many years and we are grateful for their service. We have taken pleasure in hiring the brothers, sisters, and the children of former employees. The many Fish Tale romances and marriages have enriched our lives. We will miss our extensive Fish Tale family.

It is a difficult to close the restaurant and say goodbye to all our Fish Tale friends; however, it's time to say farewell and thank you to all.

Neighborhood social media has reported that the sale of the restaurant was to the E.J. Malloy's group. 

A story in the Press-Telegram now confirms that E.J. Malloys will take over the space.

The Los Altos Center Adjacent  Neighborhoods will be monitoring the alcohol licensing process to insure that the restrictions of the neighborhood alcohol establishments are incorporated into any new alcohol establishment to replace the Fish Tale.

4th District Mayoral Q and A attracts overflow crowd

The Mayoral Candidate Q and A hosted at the Los Altos Library by 4th Councilman Patrick O'Donnell drew an overflow crowd.

Businessman Damon Dunn and First District Councilman Dr. Robert Garcia took three questions from Councilman O'Donnell before taking questions from the audience.

The questions ranged from economics and job creating, to education and senior services, to the new civic center and the breakwater.

On most of the topics, the two candidates offered a different approach and perspective. 

The candidates clearly offered two different approaches to Long Beach's future and the audience seemed interested and engaged.
