LB Register available in Los Altos Center

After 2nd day as a two paper town- papers can't ignore each other...
Long Beach Register makes its debut this week 

The new Long Beach Register is available in the Los Altos Center neighborhood. LB Register newspaper racks can be found in front of McDonald's on Bellflower Street , in front  of the Los Altos Post Office and at the news racks in front of Wendy's at Bellflower and Sterns.

 Eventually the LB Register will be have the OC Register (with regional, state and national news) inside of our new local paper. 

The LB Register is published Monday- Friday, and for a limited time it is available free of charge. The pay-for -view website for the paper is scheduled to debut in September. 

The web address for the new paper is  LBRegister.com- not to be confused with the web address  LongBeachRegister.com -which will take you to the Press-Telegram web page!

While both papers have sworn off a "newspaper war" in today's papers both mentioned the other paper in what might be seen as a "shot across the bow".

In today's Tim Grobaty's Press-Telegram column, WHAT'S HOT, 
in his classic Grobatyism  he writes about the new paper hiring ex-Press-Telegram staffers;

Did the little exodus (exodette?) of  P-T'ers seeking asylum at a newspaper with an eye toward toppling the newspaper of record in Long Beach hurt us?

Personally? Yes, a little bit. We actually liked one of the people who left. Otherwise: Betrayed. Backstabbed. Sold out for pieces of silver. 

He then adds about what competition has brought to the P-T and takes a shot at the former OC Register owners with this:

For several hours we felt mildly depressed by the turncoats, but then things started happening at the newspaper we’ve called home for 37 years. We started hiring some serious talent and otherwise beefing up the staff to replace and counter the murine — erstwhile staffers who thought they were scampering off a burning ship into the welcoming arms of a paper with libertarian/crackpot roots.

Meanwhile, the LB Register seems to have an ally in Mayor Foster with a front page story ( and picture) about one of the new Register owners Eric Spitz chatting "with Mayor Bob Foster after handing him a copy of the Long Beach Register at Polly's Gourmet Coffee" .

The Long Beach Register story goes on to say Mayor Foster is a fan of the new paper and states "Foster noted as the Press-Telegram has 'regionalized' its coverage, 'it lost focus' ".

It might not be war yet, but it certainly is not a love fest.
